About Us
Our Design Philosophy
We design & build modern furniture you will love now—and proudly hand down later. Crisp, clean lines and smooth finishes are the warm heart of every handcrafted piece. Our signature exposed plywood edges, eye-popping joints, and unique wood tones energize classic materials and add some serious soul.
We keep things simple by stripping down every design to the most essential elements - every detail in our pieces is carefully selected, and all the unnecessary embellishments are left out.
We keep things clean by always working with, not against, geometry. The finishes we use leave the wood with a natural, matte feeling.
Our furniture is timeless yet distinctively modern at the same time. We draw inspiration from mid-century design icons - Charles and Raye Eames, Isamu Noguchi, Paul McCobb, George Nelson, Hans and Florence Knoll, Frank Lloyd Wright, to name a few. But while our pieces certainly have mid-century elements, they’re not so easily categorized.
We think our tagline says it all — Simple, Clean, Modern.
Meet the Maker
Even as a child, Justin was a creator. He had a passion, yes a passion, for building. He spent his summers in Iowa building two things: LEGOS® and forts out of straw bales. Building was in his DNA.
As an adult, his life took him in a different direction; stage managing for live theater. His days of building with his hands faded into the background and he began building productions from a management perspective.
After the purchase of his first home in 2011, he started to tinker around with typical homeowner DIY projects, and this eventually led to an attempt to build a piece of furniture. “I can make this,” Justin thought. And he did. Friends began to ask for pieces of furniture from him, and one thing led to another.
Entirely self taught, Justin left his career in the theater industry and now works full-time as the sole designer and builder at Hossle Woodworks. Operating out of a 2,000 square foot studio in the heart of the Northeast Minneapolis Arts District, he is involved in the arts scene and has won numerous awards and public commissions. His pieces can be found at local shops, art fairs throughout the Twin Cities Metro Area, and in hundreds of homes worldwide.
