This isn’t your parents’ chess board. It’s retro, minimalist, and mid-century.
Complete with a 15” x 15” board, the chess and checkers set includes decorative boxes for storage and display of the pieces, as well as a care card that provides tips on how to maintain the board and delineate the pieces.
When purchasing the full set, an outer box is included. The chess box and checkers boxes nest neatly inside, giving you the option of displaying a single box or all three!

Queen: Circular inlay, denoting her ability to move in all directions. (Extra Queen included).
Bishop: Diagonal Inlay, indicating movement pattern.

Our Modern Chess and Checkers Set is made using solid walnut and solid maple for the pieces with inlays of Baltic birch on the chess pieces. The board is a combination of Baltic birch strips and solid walnut.(02) Finish
Pure Tung Oil, Boiled Linseed Oil, Beeswax, Carnauba Wax. The end result is a durable, water-resistant matte finish that feels like a silky-smooth piece of wood.The bottom of the board has rubber feet to prevent the board from moving during game play.

(01) How do I care for this product?
Details can be found on our FAQ page and a care card will be sent with the item. That said, in general, treat the piece with kindness. A damp cloth is all you need to clean it (definitely no harsh chemicals), and the piece can be refreshed with a bit of furniture wax when needed.
(02) I don’t know how to play chess or checkers. Are instructions included?
No. Instructions for the games can be found online through any search engine.
(03) Why is this such an expensive set?
This piece utilizes a lot of solid wood. In addition, each piece is handcrafted and has a significant amount of detail to it.

Baltic birch layers are a high quality, all hard-wood product that is sustainable, stable, and artful in design.
In some of our products, such as this one, we glue and stack the layers together. Then, we cut them vertically so that you are able to see the striped layers turn on their sides.
It’s inspired by mid-century style, but is modern, minimalist, and a work of art.
